Education Secretary Inaugurates PDIC Resource Center and e-Library

As part of the 45th anniversary celebrations of the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation, Education Secretary Jesli A. Lapus leads the inauguration on June 23 of the PDIC Resource Center and e-Library.

The PDIC Resource Center is envisioned to be a repository of information on deposit insurance and financial stability issues in the region.

Welcoming and joining Secretary Lapus for the inauguration of the PDIC Resource Center are PDIC President Jose C. Nograles, Executive Vice Presidents Cristina Q. Orbeta and Imelda S. Singzon, along with the Executive and Management Committee officers of the Corporation.

Representatives of the Financial Sector Forum’s Committee on Consumer Protection and Education from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Insurance Commission also graced the event as part of the group’s advocacy in consumer education. Representatives of partner institutions from the World Bank Knowledge Development Center - Manila, the Philippine Institute for Development Studies, and the United Nations Information Center also attended the launching.

The Center has a physical library with a reading area, computer terminals and a conference room, as well as an electronic library.  The e-library, which may be accessed from the computer terminals at the Center or remotely through the PDIC website, features an on-line bibliography or catalogue search portal where researchers may download some of the full text of publications and papers or view multimedia resources.

As a special library, the facility has a focused collection on deposit insurance and financial stability issues sourced from global experts on deposit insurance from the International Association of Deposit Insurers and multilateral institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Asian Development Bank, the Bank for International Settlements and other international institutions.

The collection also features local publications from the BSP, Philippine Institute for Development Studies, and the PDIC.

The Center is allied with 10 international financial institutions and multilateral organizations.

The facility is aimed at promoting greater deposit insurance awareness among the Corporation’s various stakeholders and the general public.
